Lisa qualified as a registered nurse in October 1989 from Nottingham School of Nursing. Her first post in oncology was as a staff nurse on the Breast Care ward at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Fulham. Lisa’s first post as a clinical nurse specialist was at Princess Margaret’s Hospital in Swindon, where she set up a nurse led chemotherapy service and cared for patients with bowel, gynaecological and breast cancer.
In 2001, Lisa set up the gynaecological oncology nursing service for the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre and led this service for the 3 Counties Cancer Network. In 2003 she was awarded the Education Award for the Palliative & Cancer Support Forum, in co-operation with the RCN Cancer Nursing Society for her multi-professional work in pelvic care. She graduated in 2005 with a Master’s degree in Cancer Care from Oxford Brookes University. In 2008 Lisa was invited to become a member of National Oncology Nurse Faculty which presented study days all over the UK. In 2009 she worked with Target Ovarian Cancer as a member of their Expert Panel for the pathfinder study.
Lisa was a founder member of the National Forum of Gynaecological Oncology Nursing and was President in 2006, 2007 and covering for 2009. In 2008 she was elected as the Nursing Representative for the British Gynaecological Cancer Society Council. Lisa remains passionate about the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist and strives to improve this specialist nursing service and raise it’s profile both locally and nationally across all sectors of health care.
