BGCS Conference 2016

BGCS Conference 2016

BGCS – 12-13TH May 2016 – ICC Birmingham

-Natalie Percival, President National Forum Gynaecology Oncology Nurses

The ICC Birmingham this year hosted a fantastic BGCS conference attended by a worldwide audience with a passion for gynaecology. The scientific programme was jam packed and each speaker and session provided key learning elements for us to take back to our everyday practice. It was great to see the presentation on endometrial cancer by Emma Crosbie as this really brought home the importance of endometrial cancer which had previously been discussed by Lousie Wan and Pierre-Martin Hirsch at the NFGON conference the day prior to BGCS. It was exciting for me to hear Professor Iain McNeish’s talk on BRCA and his support for the role of the clinical nurse specialist, which I am sure you all know, is a topic that I am passionate about.

The exhibition stands and poster viewing areas were busy with delegates and industry and provided excellent points for discussion with other members of the conference. I was excited to see that our NFGON member Philppa Lloyd won 3rd prize for her poster presentation on Learning Disabilities and Gynaecological Cancer: Recommendations for Accessing Care and Treatment. This was an NFGON funded bursary for Philippa and highlights the important work that the nursing community provide to the large medical conferences.

The meeting also provided NFGON committee with an opportunity to discuss our next conference alongside the BGCS in Glasgow in 2017 and early talks were had about the integration of the NFGON conference and the BGCS conference to bring you the best possible agenda.

Tracie Miles and I are also on the scientific committee for BGSC 2018 which will be hosted in London. If there is anything you want to present or any specific agenda items you feel are paramount for the programme, then please do get in touch. As always there will be nursing bursaries available.
